London Event
Our meeting in London on July 4th at America Square was a great success, and we’re grateful for the fantastic turnout. We hope everyone who attended found the event informative and enjoyable!

The session kicked off with introductions from Keeley and Colin, and then we were thrilled to hear from our first speaker, Dr. Scott Anderson, Senior Principal Scientist at Leica Biosystems. Scott shared valuable insights into IHC validation in the industry, guiding us through the journey of taking an antibody from the early scoping stages to a fully validated test, covering all the important regulatory steps along the way.
Next, Dr. Jacqueline McDermott, Consultant Histopathologist at Barts Health, gave us an excellent overview of IHC in Gynecological Pathology. She walked us through the most useful antibody panels for diagnosing and confirming specific conditions, while also pointing out some common pitfalls to avoid. Jacqueline also highlighted the potential of FOLR1 IHC as a marker to identify patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer who may benefit from treatment with mirvetuximab soravtansine, which is currently under review by NICE.

Our final speaker, Marianne Grantham, Head of Molecular Pathology and Cytogenetics at Barts Health, discussed the role of IHC and molecular diagnostics in predicting outcomes in endometrial cancer. Marianne explained how cancers expressing POLE tend to have better outcomes, often requiring less aggressive treatment. She also introduced us to the Modaplex platform, which Barts Health has been exploring as a promising alternative to NGS for detecting POLE mutations in endometrial cancer.

The session ended with a lively panel discussion, followed by additional time for delegates to explore the trade show and network with exhibitors.

It has been an unprecedented, unusual year, difficult to say the least! Despite this, we managed to build a network of fantastic scientists who have come together in times of crisis like reagent shortages! Thank you to all of you for your support, encouragement, and kindness over the past 6 months, it has been great getting to know you all and I’m looking forward to building on this in 2021.
Wising you all a very safe and happy Christmas and a wonderful new year!

Best wishes, Keeley, Jamie, Laura, Colin and Rob.

Today I ran the Very Race for Life 2020 with a good friend who sadly lost her mum this year to cancer. After running today it really made me think about the cancer diagnostic work we all do every day to ensure our patients are diagnosed efficiently and managed appropriately. Keep up the amazing work you do!
